MBBS at NUST: NUST's Entry into Medical Education

NUST School of Health Sciences (NSHS) was launched in 2024, marking NUST's entry into medical education. The MBBS program is a 5-year degree followed by a mandatory 1-year house job. The program is approved by the Pakistan Medical Commission and follows the PMC uniform curriculum. NUST's strong research infrastructure in biosciences (through ASAB) supports the pre-clinical training.

Admission Requirements

Candidates must have FSc Pre-Medical (or equivalent) with minimum 60% marks. A valid MDCAT score is required with at least 55% passing marks (50% for BDS). Admission is through the centralised PMC system. NUST also considers international applicants through the expatriate student quota.

Curriculum

Years 1-2 cover pre-clinical sciences: Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, and Community Medicine. Year 3 covers para-clinical: Pathology, Pharmacology, Microbiology, and Forensic Medicine. Years 4-5 involve clinical rotations in Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Psychiatry, and other specialties. The final year includes a one-year house job rotation.

Fee and Hostel Costs

MBBS tuition is PKR 275,400 per semester. MBBS students pay higher hostel accommodation charges: for Spring 2026 onward, single occupancy with attached bath is PKR 28,600/month, double attached is PKR 26,000/month, triple community bath is PKR 13,000/month. Refundable hostel security is PKR 25,000. Mess fee is PKR 18,000/month.

Clinical Training

NSHS has affiliations with teaching hospitals in Islamabad and Rawalpindi for clinical rotations. Students complete rotations in medicine, surgery, pediatrics, gynaecology, and other specialties during years 4-5.
