BS AI at NUST SEECS

BS Artificial Intelligence was introduced at NUST SEECS for the Fall 2024 intake, making NUST one of the first Pakistani universities to offer a dedicated undergraduate AI degree. The program is also offered at NUST Balochistan Campus (NBC) Quetta. Given the rapid growth of AI globally, this degree has quickly become one of the most competitive programs at NUST.

Curriculum

The curriculum covers machine learning (supervised, unsupervised, reinforcement learning), neural networks and deep learning (CNNs, RNNs, Transformers), natural language processing (text classification, sequence modelling, LLMs), computer vision (image classification, object detection, segmentation), reinforcement learning (Q-learning, policy gradients, deep RL), AI ethics, fairness, and explainability, and mathematics for AI (linear algebra, calculus, probability, optimisation). Students work on industry-relevant projects throughout the program.

Research Labs

SEECS houses the Artificial Intelligence R&D Lab, established in collaboration with the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) and the University of Kaiserslautern. This lab provides students with exposure to cutting-edge AI research.

Career Prospects

AI engineers are the highest-paid fresh graduates in Pakistan. Starting salaries for NUST AI graduates range from PKR 150,000-300,000/month. Companies like Careem, Afiniti, and various AI startups actively recruit from NUST. AI skills are also the most in-demand for remote work with US and European companies.
